Overview
Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is located on the Capilano Suspension Bridge in North Vancouver. It is a landmark attraction in Vancouver and the oldest tourist attraction in Vancouver . The suspension bridge is about 450 feet (137 meters) long, and is about 230 feet high from the Kaplano River under the bridge. It is the longest and highest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world. This shocking but stable suspension bridge is now world-famous, attracting countless tourists from all over the world every year to try its courage.
At that time, Mackay, an engineer and real estate developer from Scotland, purchased 6,000 acres of land on both sides of the Capilano River in North Vancouver, and with the help of the local aboriginal people, built this suspension bridge with hemp noose and planks, communicating with Both sides of the river valley. He also built a log cabin on the edge of a cliff in Bridge Valley. Mackay’s adventurous friends often hike long distances to visit the rare suspension bridge project and spend the night in cabins. With the increase of tourists, the fame of the suspension bridge is also growing.
After Mackay’s death, the suspension bridge changed its owners several times, and the hemp nooses used in the bridge were replaced with steel cables in 1903. In 1935, the then owner invited Aboriginal artists to set up totem poles representing Aboriginal culture near the suspension bridge. In 1956, the new owner rebuilt the suspension bridge again, forming what it is today.
Both sides of the suspension bridge are full of tall and straight pine and cedar trees, and there are walking routes interspersed among them, which can go down to the bottom of the suspension bridge. The bottom of the bridge is full of rapids and cliffs, and the mystery of the rapids in the deep mountains often amazes tourists. There are also totem poles, outdoor barbecue sites, aboriginal carving centers, gardens, gift shops and fast food restaurants in the park, and the facilities are quite complete. The park also launched a treetop adventure program in the summer of 2004, which was very popular. Walking a few hundred meters from the suspension bridge to the mountain road, you can see an artificial breeding farm for frogfish, which is the first artificially cultivated salmon farm in the province. At the stage, there are physical exhibitions, and you can also visit the fish fry farm. This fish farm is responsible for releasing frog fry, which can be described as a combination of knowledge and fun.
